Did this last Fall, on the road, but saving for a good time. Something to read for the snowbound, fwiw.
Midnight Meme
1. What time did you go to bed last night and why?
To bed about usual, ca 12:30 am Why? Um, because I was tired and sleepy.
2. What is the thread count of the sheets on your bed right now?
It’s a sleeping bag and I have no idea of the thread count. Why would anyone care?
3. What's the last thing you bought?
Groceries, and screw hooks
4. Do you order bottled water at restaurants? Flat or sparkling?
I have never ordered bottled water at a US restaurant. If they don’t want to give me their water, from a tap/bottle/barrel, whatever, then I leave. Did get bottled water in Mexico, though., although usually got coffee or beer. (and, yes I am fully aware that much of the bottled water in many restaurants is in fact tapwater in recycled bottles). If anyone in 1950 had said you could sell 12 oz bottles of water in the US within 40 years for as much as $3.00 a bottle, you would have been laughed out of the room.
5. Favorite place you've lived?
Really miss that doublewide in Nebraska. Rather like where I currently live, though.
6. Favorite year in history?
My birth year—otherwise I wouldn’t be filling this out, right?
7. Person of note you would trade places with for a year?
The twelfth richest man in America—lots of dough, but not all that famous, so few publicity hassles. It would be fun to be the Sultan of Swat, but Swat doesn’t have a sultan.
8. Favorite musician/band (a list is allowed)?
It would be easier to list whom I don’t like.
9. Do you remember your first mix tape? Did you make it or was it given to you? If it was given to you, who made it? Can you remember any of the tracks?
I have no mix tapes.
10. Favorite James Bond film?
None.
11. Your dream car?
Mr T’s van in the A-team, but with a heavier engine and a good towing package.
12. If you had to leave today and start all over with nothing, where would you go and what would you do?
With nothing, I guess I’d walk downtown and panhandle until I had some cash.
13. Have you ever had surgery? (Please only describe it if it was a cool one.)
Several. Only cool one was the removal of a vestigial tail. Removal of intestinal polyps was sort of interesting cuz I have photos of my insides.
14. What is your favorite scent?
Freshly baked bread and freshly made coffee . Harder to find, but the combination of slightly running water with a little algae/duckweed in a second growth forest with some pine and spruce and some hardwoods, early in the morning, just after the fog has burned off.
15. Who was your favorite teacher? Least favorite?
High school, Joe Collins, band director. Later, a definite tossup between Julius Pratt and Marshall Smelser (US diplomatic history and US colonial/revolutionary period history, respectively). I wanna be like them when I grow up. (It didn't hurt that Dr. Pratt and his wife lived in the Village when it was still, actually, Bohemian--and hung out with all those artsy/socialist types--and were willing to reminisce. Least favorite—any other of my high school teachers.
16. Is there someone from your past you wish could see you now?

20. Did you tell your children there was a Santa Claus (and if you don't have children yet, will you)?
Did not specifically tell, but did not break the mythos . When asked, did tell about St. Nicholas, and admittedly mixed the Dutch version with the original, but always included “some people say”. When asked directly, did not lie.
21. Who introduced you to the music of David Sylvian?
Who?
22. If you had to watch one movie and no others for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’ve managed to watch The Vikings more than any other movie, so I guess that would be OK.
23. Do you hate people? Anyone interesting?
In general, no, to both questions.
24. If you had to live on a yacht or a farm, which would you choose?
Farm. ( I like pigs, even though they are a hassle to take care of). And it’s easier to escape from a farm than a yacht.

The thing I am most embarrassed about, no.

Historian, then librarian Both worked out pretty well. I *enjoy* what I am currently doing very much, and learned that on the job .

You’re getting acceptable on that piece of junk; now buy a *good* guitar.

My birth day, and I don’t remember it.

Yum, yes. Buckwheat pancakes most favorite, but almost impossible to find anymore.

I try very hard not to judge people at first sight, and I’m usually right in refraining from doing so.
33. Since we all seem to love Italian food so much, do you prefer the northern or the southern cuisine?
Yes.
34. What behavior is most likely to make you decide to make a first date the last date?
Definitely, lack of intelligent conversation. (Of course, in most definitions, I have not had a real "date" in a very long time).
36. Savory or sweet?
No.
37. Do you wear a specific fragrance? Is there a story?
No

45. What's the most unusual thing you have ever been paid to do?
Brief a case that the Roman Catholic church should allow its members to be Freemasons. Or, maybe, act as bouncer for an opera/ballet house (it was a rough neighborhood)—or do most opera houses have bouncers as well as ushers?
46. What kind of cell phone do you have?
Kyocera, basic model.
47. How do you feel about yoga?
I've never tried it.
48. In addition to the Beatles, if any band from history could be reunited for a concert, which would you want to see?

49. Do you play Mario Kart Wii? If so, why haven't we exchanged codes?!
No.
50. What do you remember about the first time you met the person who sent you this questionnaire?
